Petzl Shunt Ascender
The Shunt Ascender is Petzl's mechanical version of a Prusik hitch or self-locking knot. It locks onto either a single rope or double ropes of the same diameter and holds well on icy and muddy ropes. It's ideal for backing up a descent with a Figure "8" or other device. The Shunt Ascender frame must be held to descend. It locks off if the hand is removed.
